Graham Bobby

Graham spent most of his career working at Shell, mainly in retail and latterly in engineering and project management services. He specialized in strategy and marketing roles, but also had spells in retail operations. He had a special focus on leading teams, often of dispersed and ambitious younger staff, and developed a reputation as a good coach. He was based in the UK, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands, with local, continental and global roles including Scandinavian retail head, European retail strategy manager and worldwide strategy manager for Shell Global Solutions. He had the fortune to be closely involved in new market entries, notably in central and eastern Europe, and in M&A, both deal making and managing subsequent integration. Since leaving Shell by his own choice around his fiftieth birthday, Graham has taken on consultancy work in Europe and the USA.

Graham studied mathematics at Cambridge University in the UK, acquiring an MA. He then earned an MBA from Henley Management College, also in the UK. He has wide experience as a line manager, and also in change leadership and management of major projects.

Graham lives in New York with his wife Carmela and two teenage kids. Carmela works for the UN, and was transferred to New York in 2012. Graham makes the most of his balanced life, enjoying the delights of New York City, singing (and occasionally directing) a number of choirs, and cherishing family time. Having become a celebrated blogger inside Shell, telling truth to power from a position of some credibility, he continues to blog on
